Part 155: Episode 5, Final Day, Trial Former: Bloody Message
Part 155: Episode 5, Final Day, Trial Former: Bloody Message

Either you all know what's coming, or you have the same half-baked theory that I do - that bloody mark on the jar is the only thing somewhat resembling writing that was in that office that night. More importantly, that mark having some meaning is the only reason that Gant would hide it in his safe.

I briefly considered submitting Goodman's Note (it is a message from the deceased, after all; just not the same deceased that we've been discussing), but the penalty forced me into a more serious guess. Choosing the note gets the same negative result as any other incorrect answer, however:

This is the message from the deceased!

Right...
Now then.
This is the message from the judge!
Sound: Damage 2
Excellent penalty-assessment line, sir Judge.
Oh... (I guess that wasn't right.)

(If a dead person left behind a message...)
(it would have to be in written form.)
Sound: Realization
(That's the only logical conclusion.)
You'd better be careful, or you might wind up deceased yourself.
Let's try this again.

Now then, Mr. Wright.
Please show us the piece of evidence...
that conveys a message from the deceased!
Commence retry loop.
Music: Suspense

Oh wow, I think I see it. It's just been partially wiped away. How many instances of evidence tampering are we up to now?

Sound: Realization

Why would that one fragment not get wiped? Did Lana not find it right away, and later it was too late so Gant just had to hide it in his safe?

Sound: Light Bulb

It was pitch dark in there. Did he even know what had happened, let alone who had done it?

Let's luminol the whole thing!

Was Neil Marshall really thinking at the time, "That bitch Ema betrayed and killed me! I better write down her name so everyone knows what happened!" Seems like a bit of a stretch, but whatever.

We get a little puzzle with zero instructions on what to do. After some trial and error, I discovered that connecting the dots requires a double-click with the mouse first on one dot, and then on another dot to draw a line between them.

Like so.

Not hard to connect the rest from there. The hardest part is realizing the middle line of the "E" doesn't actually need to be connected anywhere for some reason. Anyway, I never remotely saw this one coming when we first found that last piece of the jar.

Getting this one wrong is pretty easy to do, given the lack of instruction.

What do you think!? I came up with this message!

Hmm... Yes...
I feel like I'm teaching handwriting to a student who is all thumbs...
Sound: Damage 2
Hey, I didn't even know there was a penalty being threatened on that one.
I think you should make him write out "I won't do it again" 100 times.
(I never was much good at handwriting...)
(I guess I'll check the Court Record...)
Sound: Gavel
Mr. Wright!
Not sure how the Court Record is going to help with this one, but we get the same scene leading up to the same puzzle from there.

Sound: Realization
I just thought of something. In order for Neil to write out Ema's name like it's shown here, the jar would still have to be intact at this point. So how did it get broken? And why did one piece not get wiped away, and hidden in Gant's safe instead? Was he saving it as blackmail material?

Oh look, Gant's back to taunt us. Does he even realize we got that last piece of the jar out of his safe?

Gant is awfully cheeky for someone who did a lot of the evidence tampering/forging in said case.

There's a difference between responsibility and fault. Damon Gant and Lana Skye are clearly the ones at fault here. Though I guess we still have to prove Gant's involvement.

Rather eventful first half of the trial day. We still have to tie all of this SL-9 stuff back into Goodman's murder. Maybe Lana will be more forthcoming now that her secret is out?
